The CIPC have specific requirements for certified documents such as IDs, passports, etc.

On 3 February 2022, the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) published Practice Note 2 of 2022 which set out the certification requirements for documents filed with the CIPC.

The requirements for a valid certified ID/passport are as follows:

  • Certified in the last 3 months (for this reason, date of certification is required)
  • Only one ID/passport per page (in the case of an ID card, both sides must appear on the same page)
  • ID/passport must be valid (i.e. the ID/passport must not be expired)

Please note: Temporary resident / asylum seeker documents are not accepted.

Specifically, documents must be certified by a commissioner of oaths and must include their:

  • Full name and surname
  • Designation (or in the case of police officers: rank and number)
  • Physical address (or business address)
  • Signature
  • Date of certification
