_Estimated reading time: 1 minute_

||| The CIPC have specific requirements for certified documents such as IDs, passports, etc.

On 3 February 2022, the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) published [Practice Note 2 of 2022](https://www.cipc.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Practice_Note_-_CERTIFICATION_2.pdf) which set out the certification requirements for documents filed with the CIPC.

The requirements for a valid certified ID/passport are as follows:
* Certified in the last 3 months (for this reason, date of certification is required)
* Only one ID/passport per page (in the case of an ID card, both sides must appear on the same page)
* ID/passport must be valid (i.e. the ID/passport must not be expired)

**Please note:** Temporary resident / asylum seeker documents are not accepted.

Specifically, documents must be certified by a [commissioner of oaths](/en/article/what-is-a-commissioner-of-oaths-5lgan6/) and must include their:
* Full name and surname
* Designation (or in the case of police officers: rank and number)
* Physical address (or business address)
* Signature
* Date of certification
