# How to appoint a director in South Africa

||| Director appointments must be submitted to CIPC and can be filed directly through InfoDocs.

*Estimated reading time: 1 minute and 30 seconds*

Appointing a new director requires submitting a director change or amendment (COR39) to the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and preparing the relevant supporting documents.

InfoDocs makes this process simple and easy by guiding you through the steps, producing the supporting documents and handling the CIPC submission on your behalf. The cost of a director change is free for [subscription accounts](/en/article/subscription-pricing-1a2lnlf/) and only R249 for [pay as you go (PAYG) accounts](/en/article/pay-as-you-go-payg-pricing-upt969/).

### How to appoint a director with InfoDocs

**Step 1**: [Log in](https://secure.infodocs.co.za/account/login) and select your company, then go to the **Directors** tab and click **Appoint Director**.

**Step 2**: Capture the new director details and click **Next**.

**Step 3**: Select the date, appointment and occupation (optional) then click **Save**.

* Appointment options include DIRECTOR, NON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR and ALTERNATIVE DIRECTOR.

**Step 4**: Confirm the director details and click **Save**.

* If you would like to submit more changes, click **Appoint Another Director** (bottom) or **Terminate Appointment** (under the specific director).
* For South African citizens, the ID number, surname and issue date (South African ID book or card) must match the records on Home Affairs or the transaction will be blocked when we attempt to submit to CIPC.
* For non-citizens, the director must be verified on CIPC's foreigner assurance system before they can be appointed. For more information on this process, read [how to verify a foreign director](/en/article/how-to-verify-a-foreign-director-on-cipc-m0uym1/).
* For affected directors (those with a status change), their contact details must be up-to-date and match the records on CIPC as they will receive one-time pins (OTPs) via email and SMS. If neither contact details match, we will send you a request to [update them on CIPC](/en/article/how-to-update-your-contact-details-for-director-changes-on-cipc-1f9jvs5/) or on InfoDocs and then resubmit.

**Step 5**: Confirm the company details and click **Next**.

**Step 6**: Select the supporting documents and click **Upload**.

* For more information on verified/certified IDs, refer to the [CIPC requirements for certification](/en/article/what-are-the-cipc-requirements-for-certification-1ix6dxx/).
* Other supporting documents will be produced automatically and can be downloaded by clicking the document name.

**Step 7**: Success! The transaction has been submitted to CIPC and we will notify you once the OTPs have been sent by CIPC.

* Verify the OTPs via the link provided by CIPC (we will send you a reminder).
* Once verified, the confirmation document (COR39) will be sent to you automatically.

**Please Note**: The records on InfoDocs will reflect as pending until the director changes have been approved by CIPC.
